We were digging around in the search engines a few months ago and noticed that there are dozens of fake Makita "knockoff" batteries out there being sold in online tool stores. You can imagine Makita wasn't too pleased about this, but what difference does it make in operating your Makita power tools? I mean, they look the same, in fact they look so much alike that it was hard for us to tell the difference between the real deal and the knockoff.

Your wife or daughter may go out and buy a knockoff of a designer purse or pair of shoes and, in that case, if it looks good, it is good. With Makita batteries, its doesn't matter what they look like - its the performance and reliability that counts. We thought we would write about why it really does make sense to use genuine Makita batteries, rather than a look-a-like.

There is a huge difference between a fake Makita battery and the real thing. You may save money, but you will be giving up performance. The fake batteries don't hold a charge anywhere near as long as a genuine Makita battery does. The fake batteries also don't provide the same power you need to get the job done, so you'll lose out in battery performance, as well.

For example, Makita makes the MAK 632007-4 Ni-Cad 9.6V Rechargeable Stick Type Battery and this item was made by Makita and according to Makita's specifications. This battery fits all of the 9000 series drills and other Makita power tools, except 6791D, 6901D, 6200D, and as Makita builds newer models, these batteries are getting a little more hard to come by. If you are out there shopping around on the internet for this particular battery, it is darned easy to make a mistake and buy a knockoff, because they have made them like your wife's cheaper "designer" purse - looks the same, but it isn't. They also try to word it to sound like its a genuine Makita battery. Sometimes you'll type in a search phrase looking for the battery for the 9000 series and up pops a battery and you're thinking, "Wow, what a great price!" Then you realize its for a completely different series of Makita power tools.
