Carl Peters' 1949 GMC "Old Blue"

When I needed a truck to do some work with recently, I began looking for just a cheap pickup. My Dad had a 49 Chevy 1/2 ton when I was a kid and when I started finding this body style I just had to have one. I needed a truck that was running and able to do some hauling for the next year or so, but I wanted a classic. I didn't want an already restored truck as that would cost too much and then I wouldn't be able to work with it, either. Doug's Truck
Rear View of 1954 GMC This truck is perfect. The original wood bed is there, somewhat rotted and would need replacement if I was to restore her. But it is sturdy enough work with.
This truck was bought new by a farmer in Pittman, PA for $1,840. The truck was sold to a relative in 1986 at the estate sale and then sold in 1995 to the gentleman I bought her from back in May. I found her on the web.
Old Blue appears to be fairly original. I don't believe she's been re-painted. I have compounded and waxed what paint is there. Someone has sprayed primer in places, mainly to stop rusting. I don't believe there's any putty in her. The last owner told me she'd been barned for her entire life. I currently don't have inside storage for her, but hope to by winter.
She has the original 228 and she starts pretty easy and runs good. Original 6 volt system. She's geared real low, four speed, first is granny gear. She tops out at about 45 to 50 where she starts shaking and the doors start rattling. Needs new door seals. The last owner had ordered the upholstery replacement kit from Carter's and I need to install that.
